Many School Records Set at Meet of the Hearts

Many School Records Set at Meet of the Hearts

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – After seeing nine Bethany Lutheran Track and Field athletes compete on the big stage last night at the University of St. Thomas, the entire team competed in the Meet of the Hearts hosted by Carleton College on Saturday. Five school records were significantly toppled in the efforts today.

In the 55m hurdles freshman Megan Rutt continued to roll, with a school record of 8.96, breaking her previous record by .16 seconds. "Megan has had a busy weekend and competed very well in all four events she participated in this weekend," Head Coach Michael Dunn said.

Stefan Prince continues his phenomenal Indoor season with a 50.96 in the 400m dash. He not only broke the school record by nearly a second and a half, but also won the event at Carleton. "Stefan's weekend is hard to match with his 800 and 400 back to back day combo. I am thrilled to see him racing like this and with two more weeks of practice, conference should be really exciting."

Megan Sauer put up a solid 800m performance and became the first female Bethany athlete to break 2:30 in the event. "Watching Megan run the mile and 800m this weekend shows her versatility of being able to do some of the more mid-distance events, compared to her usual distance events and that takes guts. She has great determination and it's nice to see her fire during the shorter races."

Lydia Hildebrandt
finished off her weekend with two school records. As part of the 4x200m relay team, she helped the group break the school record by two seconds. She also held off teammate Brianna Soutthivong to retake the 400m record back by over a second, with a time if 61.45. "Lydia had a good day today and what is scary is she has more in the tank. With Brianna chasing her 400m time now it will be fun to see those two go after the 60 at conference."

UP NEXT:
Bethany Lutheran will next compete as a team at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship on February 24th and 25th in Duluth, Minnesota. The next meet in which a selected group will attend will be the University of Minnesota Snowshoe/Parent's Day Open.
