Track and Field opens outdoor season with local meet

ST. PETER, Minn. - The Bethany men's and women's track and field teams had an impressive outdoor season debut at the Lee Krough Invitational on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College setting 13 new program records.

For the men, Owen Richardson had a dominant running in the 3000 meter steeplechase. He won the event in a time of 10:01.11, more than 11 seconds better than the second place runner and broke his own school record by more than 17 seconds.

Matthew Tucker became the first Bethany athlete to jump higher than six feet in the high jump when he leapt 6-feet, 3/4-inches to place third.

In his first outdoor competition, Josh Jablon set three new program marks in the shot put (41-feet, 8 3/4-inches), discus (116-feet, 6-inches), and hammer throw (106-feet, 9-inches). Luke Hahn broke his own record i nthe javelin with a heave of 133-feet, 4-inches.

Nic Bruss had an impressive showing with three top five finishes in the 110 hurdles (16.37, 5th), long jump (19-feet, 1 1/4-inches, 3rd), and triple jump (41-feet, 1 1/2-inches, 5th).

For the women, Kari Marzinske had a great showing establishing three program records. She broke the old long jump mark by over a foot and a half with a lead op 15-feet, 8 1/4 to place third. The freshman also bested the high jump mark by two inches (4-feet, 11-inches) and the 100 meter hurdles mark by nearly a second (16.59).

Anna Lieske and Lindsey Stewart set new marks in the triple jump (31-feet, 10 1/4-inches) and hammer throw (102-feet, 2-inches), respectively.

The Vikings next compete Saturday at Carleton.
