Championship Weekend

Mankato dodged this latest snowstorm setting the stage for our Bethany sports teams to take part in a big weekend of championship action.

-- The softball squad qualified for the UMAC postseason tournament for just the second time in school history. The double elimination tournament is now taking place in Morris and Bethany, the #4 seed, will play top seed St. Scholastica at noon on Friday. The schedule for the tournament is as follows:
Friday, May 3
Game 1 - 10 a.m.: #2 Minnesota Morris vs. #3 Martin Luther
Game 2 - 12 p.m.: #1 St. Scholastica vs. #4 Bethany Lutheran
Game 3 - 2 p.m.: Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2
Game 4 - 4 p.m. Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2

Saturday, May 4
Game 5 – 10 a.m. Winner of Game 3 vs. Loser of Game 4
Game 6 – 12 p.m. Winner of Game 4 vs. Winner of Game 5
Game 7 - 2 p.m. (if necessary - same teams as Game 6)

-- The women's tennis team qualified for the UMAC postseason tournament as well following a 5-5 conference season. As the #4 seed, the Vikings will take on top seed St. Scholastica Friday evening at 6 p.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

The schedule for the tournament is as follows:
Friday, May 3
• 6 p.m. - Semifinal: No. 1 College of St. Scholastica vs. No. 4 Bethany Lutheran College
• 8:30 p.m. - Semifinal: No. 2 Northwestern College vs. No. 3 University of Minnesota-Morris
Saturday, May 4
• 11 a.m. - Championship: highest remaining seeds

-- Bethany will be taking part in their first UMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be held in Morris on Saturday. Both men's and women's teams placed third in the indoor conference meet. Athletes to watch for are Deon Wright who is excelling in the jumps and sprints and Bre Perlwitz who earned All-Conference honors at the indoor meet.

-- The Bethany baseball team is not playing in a tournament this weekend, but do have some key games on their schedule. The Vikings are undefeated in UMAC play at 8-0 thus far and on the slate this weekend are road doubleheaders at Northwestern on Friday at 1 pm and versus, fellow unbeaten St. Scholastica on Saturday at noon in Freeport.
