Box Score New Ulm, Minn. - Martin Luther broke open a tight game early in the second half with the help of a 20-2 run to defeat Bethany for the fifth straight time 64-57 Tuesday night in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action.
A lay-up from Kasslin Swenson put Bethany up 35-34 with just under 17 minutes remaining in the second half and that's when the Knights went on their run. It was a well-balanced attack for MLC, but was led by Leah Nass who scored seven in the spurt. She led the Knights with 26 points on Tuesday night on 10-for-16 shooting. Alex Anthon scored 15 points while hitting 3-of-4 from 3-point range and Brittney Gossen added ten.
It was a poor shooting night for the Vikings as they shot just over 30 percent from the field. Jade Pelzl was the leading scoring with 14 points. Shelby Wiederhoeft posted another double-double by scoring ten points and pulling down 18 rebounds. Swenson scored nine and grabbed ten rebounds herself.
The loss drops Bethany to 3-5 in the UMAC and 5-14 overall. They next play Friday in Duluth against St. Scholastica for a 5:30 p.m. start.
