Duluth, Minn. – The men’s soccer team fell in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Semifinals. The fourth seeded Vikings were defeated by the UMAC undefeated first seeded St. Scholastica Saints 6-1.
The Vikings gave up two goals in the first half and three more in the second before getting on the board. In the 80th minute freshman Michael Loguercio (Tavernier, Fla. / Coral Shores) scored his fifth goal of the season. His goal was assisted by Juan Garcia (Arlington, Minn. / Sibley East).
The Vikings were outshot four to 24; all four of BLC’s shots were taken in the second half. Bethany had two shots on goal while the Saints had 11. St. Scholastica also had a four to zero corner kick advantage.
Noah Heidorn (Fergus Falls, Minn. / Fergus Falls) played in between the pipes for the Vikings recording five saves.
The Vikings finished the season 9-11-1 overall and 8-5-1 in the UMAC. The squad ended the regular season in fourth place to advance to the UMAC Post-Season Tournament. Last year the Vikings were just one spot out of qualifying for the tournament. With just one senior, who saw limited playing time due to injury, the Vikings will bring back a solid group to make an even bigger impact in the UMAC during the 2013 season.
