Mankato, Minn. – Bethany’s
Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./St. Francis) was named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after recording her ninth and tenth double-double of the season.
The senior had 18 points and 14 rebounds in BLC’s 68-59 home court victory over the St. Scholastica Saints on January 12. The Vikings took the court the following day upsetting Northland 68-56. Englund had 16 points and 10 rebounds against the LumberJills.
Englund averages 16.1 points per game and 11.4 rebounds per game. She also leads the team in blocks with 1.7 per game and steals averaging 1.3 per game.
Bethany and St. Scholastica were predicted to finish tied for fifth in the conference according to the UMAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Northland was predicted to finish second. The top four teams in the conference advance to the UMAC Post-Season Tournament. The UMAC Post-Season Tournament champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament.
Bethany holds a 3-11 overall record and is 2-1 in UMAC games. The Vikings' next contests will be on the road against conference opponents Minnesota-Morris on Friday January 20
th at 5:30 p.m. and Presentation on Saturday January 21
st at 3 p.m.
